Meridian, an early-stage private equity SaaS platform was up against legacy competitors like DealCloud and Salesforce. But they didn’t have to outspend to see results. By building authority across early discovery and evaluation stages, we doubled demo requests and expanded traditional search visibility more than 6x.
Most startups assume they need more to compete with established players: more content, more budget, more resources.
Especially in a category like private equity software, where legacy tools like DealCloud, Salesforce, and Affinity have spent years building brand equity and authority; that assumption is hard to shake.
But Meridian came into the engagement with a lean setup. A one-person marketing team, a small website still coming out of its startup phase, and an SEO and GEO footprint that was effectively starting from zero.
There was no existing content strategy to build on and limited capacity to implement at scale.
These case study results didn’t come from scaling past those constraints. They came from working within them and being precise about where effort would compound.
Here’s how a focused organic growth and content strategy helped a small private equity SaaS team expand traditional search visibility more than 6x and boost AI traffic 150%. We’ll also explain how that translated into real revenue results — despite lacking the budget and headcount competitors had.
Meridian’s direct competitors — like DealCloud, Salesforce, and Affinity — are established vendors with strong authority, and they’ve historically dominated the private equity CRM space.
The buying journey in this category often starts with operational questions: how do the best firms run deal sourcing, manage pipeline, or structure investment committee workflows?
That early research phase shapes which vendors enter the consideration set, before a formal evaluation process has even started. But we couldn’t ignore the importance of also showing up when buyers were ready to create their shortlist.
Bottom line, the brand needed visibility across both ends of the journey: early enough to appear when buyers were first exploring the category and late enough to show up when those same buyers started comparing solutions.
When the engagement began:
The opportunity to translate organic growth to pipeline was there, if we could find the right strategy for a small team with a constrained budget.
For this brand, annual contract values typically range between $50,000 and $100,000 per customer, meaning that even relatively small increases in qualified demo requests can translate into meaningful revenue impact.
So we found a way to build the brand’s organic growth engine from scratch in a category dominated by much larger players.
Working with a small team and relatively new website wasn’t an issue for us, and we were able to increase the brand’s organic presence across Google and AI search engines and drive demo requests.
Stacey-Lee Knipe, Skale Senior Account Manager
The objective was clear: build an organic program that drives pipeline. To do that we had to expand Meridian’s organic visibility across the private equity software search ecosystem and increase demo requests from organic discovery.
Private equity buyers start their search with operational questions. And the platforms that show up during that research phase tend to make it into formal evaluations.
This early-stage brand had a lot of ground to make up in the early discovery stage. So, we built out a private equity CRM ecosystem cluster. It targeted the operational topics that investment professionals research first, including:
To ensure authoritativeness and knowledge gain, this content was informed by private equity experts.
Monthly conversations with Meridian’s CEO and interviews with third-party private equity professionals helped ensure that the content landed with readers and conveyed E-E-A-T signals to search engines and LLMs.
Traditional search impressions increased more than sixfold, which indicates that the brand began appearing in a far larger number of relevant searches than before.
Searches like “DealCloud alternatives” or “Affinity CRM alternatives” represent high-intent moments, where buyers are actively assessing their options and close to making a decision.
To compete at that stage, we introduced a set of competitor comparison articles targeting the evaluation searches most relevant to Meridian’s category. Several of them went on to drive demo requests directly.
Late-stage buyers also conduct general “best in category” searches. And showing at the top of the SERPs for “best private equity CRM,” which was historically dominated by legacy incumbents, was a north-star goal for this project.
Prior to the engagement, Meridian ranked sporadically on page 2, with inconsistent visibility for the term. Over the course of the engagement, rankings improved and stabilized at the top of page 1 for several months. This marked a significant shift in category presence.
Most importantly, organic growth translated into measurable commercial impact. MoM demo requests increased by approximately 30% compared to the baseline period, with the record month seeing 2x growth.
Building the organic program also included a series of technical and structural improvements to strengthen the content we created, including:
With these initiatives, the individual pages in the private equity CRM ecosystem cluster began working as a whole, with each piece reinforcing the others and accelerating Meridian’s overall authority across private equity software searches.
We also looked for opportunities to boost Meridian’s visibility in AI search.
Professionals researching complex software categories are increasingly using AI assistants to ask questions like:
Once the foundational SEO was in place, we conducted an AI search readiness audit to ensure Meridian’s content and information architecture could be surfaced accurately by generative search systems.
As a result, traffic from AI search engines increased by approximately 150% from the start of the engagement to early 2026 (with a small, expected seasonal dip over December and January).
Competing in a category dominated by larger vendors doesn’t always require more content, more budget, or more resources.
But you do need a strategy built on an understanding how your ICP actually searches for solutions and where you need to show up.
By building authority across the operational questions private equity buyers research first, then staying visible through to the evaluation stage, Meridian was able to enter buying cycles earlier and remain in consideration longer.
That focus, executed with a lean team, was enough to 2x demo requests, expand SEO visibility more than 6x, and boost AI traffic 150% in a category where competitors had a significant head start.
